Derailed costar Clive Owen

Clive Owen

Jen has said that the opportunity to work with Clive Owen was a major factor in her decision to play Lucinda in Derailed, and to hear Jen tell it, he did not disappoint:

“Of course, Clive Owen didn’t hurt and he truly is as wonderful a person as he is an actor.”

Born in 1964 in Coventry, England, Clive Owen is a distinguished actor on both stage and screen. Much like Jen, he discovered his passion for acting at a young age, and went on to pursue formal training, at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in Clive’s case. A veteran of the Young Vic Theatre Company, he has made his mark in features such as Croupier, Gosford Park, Closer (for which he was Oscar-nominated), and most recently Children of Men (for more on this film see Pop Buzz UK). He is married to actress Sarah-Jane Fenton, with whom he has two daughters.

Derailed

In Derailed, Clive plays Charles Schine, an advertising executive who meets Jen’s Lucinda on the train. Despite their respective marriages, their lust for one another quickly surfaces, and if you don’t know how the story proceeds from there, that can be very easily remedied by seeing it (or reading the novel by James Siegel). Clive was an ideal choice for the role; he gave Charles a unique combination of vulnerability and intelligence that was essential for the progression and eventual outcome of the story.

Jen in Style Watch Special

Style Watch cover

Jen is featured on the cover of People’s May 2007 Style Watch Special, which cites her as having “the hair you love.” The article inside provides some style secrets:

Jen! Always a Hair ‘Do’
It’s been 12 years since ‘The Rachel’ debuted - and her hair’s still making waves

October 2006
“Jen has a really good head of hair. I don’t have to do much.” - Chris McMillan, Aniston’s Stylist

- beachy waves

- sleek side part

- ’70’s-inspired do

- messy pony

Four fun facts about her hair

1 - It is naturally wavy. Stylist Chris McMillan starts every style with a brush and blow-dryer to smooth it out.
2 - She uses a variety of brushes. “I wind her hair around brushes of different sizes to give her controlled waves,” says McMillan.
3 - She’s done her own red-carpet hair. For the pony above, “she put it up; I just pulled out a few pieces around her face,” McMillan says.
4 - Her color is low-maintenance (for Hollywood). Colorist Michael Canale gives her thin beige-blonde streaks that grow out very naturally. She only gets touch-ups every few months.

Her go-to hair products

McMillan and colorist Michael Canale have Aniston use these products to keep her locks healthy and her color perfectly golden-blonde.

- Kerastase Chroma Protect Polishing Creme, $34. 877-748-8357 for salons.

- Kerastase Serum Nutri-Sculpt, $29. 877-748-8357 for salons.

- Davines MOMO Moisturizing Shampoo, $16. 866-328-4637 for salons.

Jen photoshoots: Vanity Fair

In working with some of the most famous photographers in the world, Jen has posed for some beautiful pictures. Most are for magazines, and it could be said that due to the accompanying interviews, Vanity Fair is the most notorious of all. Here, then, are the photos of Jen that have been featured in Vanity Fair:

More on The Big Give

Jen and Jamie
Jen and Jamie in 2004

More details have emerged about Jen’s involvement in Oprah’s new show The Big Give. She and Jamie Oliver will be one of the teams competing to raise money for charity, in the most creative way possible. Look To The Stars, a website about celebrity contributions to charity, tells us:

. . . Contestants will strive to find “the most powerful, sensational, emotional and dramatic ways to give to others” as they travel through the U.S. inventing creative ways to help local communities and make a difference to the lives of the people they meet. The winner will be the person who makes the biggest impact with the large amount of money they are given.

Eager to get involved in the project, Jennifer Aniston and Jamie Oliver have agreed to feature in one of the 8 episodes, raising as much money as they can for charity. . .

Without a doubt, Jen’s altruism and originality will prove to be valuable assets here.

Jen gets artsy

Monday, May 7th, 2007

Tripper 1

Jen has always had an artistic side. She’s enjoyed painting and sculpting ever since she was a child, and at a young age she even had a piece displayed at the Met, as part of a special exhibition. It is not surprising, then, that much like her character Brooke, she has a healthy appreciation for viewing and purchasing art. On Friday, she was spotted picking up some pieces at the LA Modernism opening, presumably for the new house:

. . .Jennifer was very casual in jeans and a black puff sleeve blouse. She selected some 1940’s pieces, some Hollywood regency decor and some totally eclectic stuff. Among her purchases: matching Italian brass shelving units for $18,000, a pair of large Mediterranean metal lamps for $1400, and an Italian sculpture of an ostrich that included a real ostrich egg for $1500. Our favorite was a delicate French standing ashtray trimmed with Hermes leather for $2500. . . .

While there were no pictures provided, it sounds like the pieces that she chose are very much in keeping with her classy style. Visit the LA Modernism page for examples of the pieces featured.

An interesting YouTube find

Friday, May 4th, 2007

In browsing YouTube, I came across this vid taken on the set of Rumor Has It:

For those familiar with the film, this was taken between takes during filming for the scene after Beau’s conference. Other familiar faces in the vid include Kevin Costner, Rob Reiner, and Chris McMillan. And an assistant who very kindly hands our girl a coat; must have been chilly! Anyway, this video is a real treat; as enjoyable as the finished product is, there’s a certain energy and anticipation about the production of it that I simply adore. Enjoy!

Jen on the pressures of Hollywood

Thursday, May 3rd, 2007

2006

As notorious as the difficulties of public notoriety are, pressures from within the entertainment industry and the press demand even more, and occasionally more than one can handle. Jen, however, is pragmatic and level-headed in her approach to navigating the challenge of remaining true to yourself in a town that demands model perfection and eternal youth.

As we know, Jen has recently faced a great deal of plastic surgery speculation following a procedure to correct a deviated septum. While this procedure had a medical purpose, Jen has never claimed to be adamantly opposed to plastic surgery; rather, she emphasizes restraint and good taste. From Allure, February 2004:

Would she ever consider plastic surgery when . . . well . . . she really does have something to complain about? “Absolutely,” she answers immediately. “I think growing old should be done gracefully, though. There are some women who shall remain nameless who have gone way too far. Some of them look like the Grinch. They look like they’re snorkeling with the snorkels still stuck in their mouths. I haven’t done the Botox thing . . . yet. Something frightens me about injecting botulism into my brain cavity. I love expression showing in my face. But G-d knows I could use it. See, right here,” she says, lifting her bangs and showing me a deep crease that runs across her forehead. “Sure, I’d have a face lift,” she continues, fluffing her bangs again. “But I also might love growing old. Right now I love what’s happening to my body.”

Weight is also a tricky topic, as many women, Jen included, do not achieve the appearance that the industry demands without a lot of hard work. After years of struggle, though, Jen has achieved a balanced outlook, and is healthy in both mind and body. As she has very succinctly put it:

You’re damned if you’re too thin and you’re damned if you’re too heavy. According to the press I’ve been both. It’s impossible to satisfy everyone and I suggest we all stop trying.

Gossipy gossip, and a sighting

Jen and Vince

Us Weekly tells us that Jen has been, as Monica and Richard would put it, “playing raquetball” with Vince Vaughn. They also kindly invite you to vote for a more suitable beau:

Old habits die hard. “Vince has been staying over at Jen’s a lot lately,” says a source close to Jennifer Aniston, 38, who spent the night with her ex Vince Vaughn, 37, at her Hollywood Hills home on April 21.

Another insider tells Us, “It’s funny because she goes out to meet people, but keeps ending up back in bed with Vince.”

The actress definitely needs to move on, but who with?

You tell Us: Which hot A-lister would be a better match for Jen?
Matthew Perry
Luke Wilson
Lance Armstrong

Well, I for one am soooooo glad that they’re looking out for her (sense the tone).

People informs us that amid the drama, Jen has managed to find the time to not only have dinner with friends, but to pick up the tab as well:

Caught in the act!

Jennifer Aniston, picking up the tab for her friends after a meal at Los Angeles Italian eatery Zucca Ristorante. The actress dined on Pizza con Zucca Rosa (with roasted pumpkin, goat cheese, caramelized onion and speck ham) with three friends.

A not-so-critical perspective on Office Space

Office Space
Joanna very delicately makes her feelings known

This film, something of a cult classic, did wonderful things for all involved, including Jen, who was cast in The Good Girl largely based on the shades of dark that she showed here. It follows Peter Gibbons (Ron Livingston) through the mundane hell that his work life has become. Small errors become Major Issues in the land of cubicles, and his slimy boss Lumbergh certainly isn’t making things easier. His personal life is stuck in a rut, as well; he lusts after Joanna (Jen), a beautiful waitress at Tchotchke’s, but goes home every night to Ann, his cold fish of a girlfriend.

One day, he attends an occupational hypnotherapy class to reduce his stress, and upon the therapist’s sudden death, Peter never emerges from the trance. He blows off work responsibility, and the new consultants view this as a sign of radical genius and upper management potential. Having broken up with Ann, he asks Joanna out, and discovers her own work-related angst; her boss continually badgers her to add more “flair” to her uniform. Hilarity ensues as the consequences of Peter’s newfound power unfold. If you have not yet seen this film, you absolutely must, or at the very least, click here to see it reenacted in 30 seconds by bunnies!
