Wrapping it up . . .

From Maria:

I would like to know about Jen’s personality. Through her movies and tvshow, and interviews she looks sweet and funy, but I will like to know more about how she really is.

Thanks

Based on my own experience, I’d say that your impression is correct. She is very thoughtful, and incredibly kind with fans and colleagues. On the set of The Break-Up, she happily took photos with crew members, and was very friendly with extras. Her longer-lasting relationships speak volumes; I of course saw her closeness with Chris in action, and the loyalty she inspires in her entire circle of friends speaks to what a wonderful thing it is to be her friend. And funny? She kept pace with the famously hysterical Vince Vaughn. Not a whole lot more needs to be said there.

From Kathy Bear:

I would like to know-how does she keep under the radar for so long of a time.I’d like to know her “disappearing” or “evasive” tactics on advoiding the media and paps….

First of all, she is something of a homebody. In interviews, she has said that she can stay at her house for days at a time without leaving, and certainly with her means, goods and services can come to her if need be. However, another factor in her “disappearing” tendencies is simply her unassuming presence. When she does go out, she isn’t particularly flashy, and in person she’s a normal (albeit beautiful) woman and it almost strikes the observer as an afterthought that she just so happens to be famous. So unless the paparazzi know where to look for her (which they still often do), she can slip out without too many people creating a fuss.

More responses:

From Bella:

I would like to know what ever happened to Voxxy? and why did Jen never direct an episode of ‘Friends’ anymore?

Ahhh, dear sweet Voxxy. I was bummed about its demise as well. Seems it just didn’t have the audience that was anticipated. As for your other question, Jen’s directorial intentions were, no pun intended, derailed by film scheduling. Filming of The Good Girl cut into her opportunity to direct a season 7 episode. Then, in season 9, she was tentatively scheduled to direct again, but filming the show simultaneously with Bruce Almighty and Along Came Polly did not afford her the opportunity.

From Sue:

I would like to know if she is still close to her other Friends cast members - not just Courtney?

Thanks Erin x

She has only been spotted out with Courteney recently, but given the close bonds she formed on the set, it is reasonable to guess that she has more privately maintained contact with other cast members.

More responses to your queries:

From vicki:

Hi,I heard from IMDb that Matthew Perry was very close friends with Jen . Did they ever date for a while ? I want to know if they are still close now.

It is rumored that Jen and Matthew dated prior to Friends, but there is no evidence of that. They do, however, know each other from before the series; they met at the audition for Camp Cucamonga (a more successful endeavor for Jen than for Matthew). They have not been spotted together recently, but as both stars are particularly stealthy, it is entirely possible that they have maintained contact privately; they certainly seemed to share a special connection on the set, and I would like to think that they’ve maintained that bond.

From Colleen:

Do Brad and Jen still remain friends or have they not spoken since the divorce? I know the tabs say they talk and had that “secret” meeting, but I don’t necessarily believe that.

There is no evidence that they have. Even though Jen has maintained contact with Brad’s mom, there is no proof and very little likelihood that she is in any sort of regular contact with Brad himself. A “secret meeting” make for a wonderfully sensational tabloid story, particularly with Shiloh in tow, but I don’t believe it to be true.

Semi-OT: Owen Wilson hospitalized

Monday, August 27th, 2007

Owen Wilson

According to media reports, Owen Wilson, slated to appear alongside Jen in Marley & Me, was hospitalized yesterday. While media speculation has been frantic, no official cause has been stated for the emergency call. From Hollywood.com:

Santa Monica Police released the following statement, “On Sunday August 26, 2007 at 12:10 p.m., officers from the Santa Monica Police Department responded to a medical assistance call from the Santa Monica Fire Department. The person was transported to a local hospital where they are being treated.”

Wilson is now thought to have been transferred to another hospital in Los Angeles, where his condition has been described as stable.

Best wishes to Owen for a thorough recovery.

Some more responses to questions from Jen fans the world over:

From Caity in Chicago:

All I want to know right now is, out of the many many rumored movie projects, which ones are officially announced? Im pretty sure Wanted and Management were official, but I’ve heard at least five others, some in the recent future and some in the not-so-recent future.

Also, whats the news on Wanted? I’ve heard cancellation/delay rumors.

One last thing, haha. I heard an actual rep for Paul Sculfor announced that the two are only friends now- is there a truly official statement on the subject, or is everything out speculation/pure crap?

Right now, the projects that seem to be in any form of preproduction are Management, He’s Just Not That Into You, and Marley & Me. You Are Here also seems to be slated for filming early next year, but as that is some time away, that is subject to change. Wanted has been delayed for a good two years since its original announcement, so as much as I personally would love to see Jen in that role, I wouldn’t hold my breath. There hasn’t been a peep regarding that project since about April. If it happens at all it will be after the more immediate projects listed above.

Regarding Paul, it does seem that their status was always rather casual. The only word from Jen’s rep regarding the subject is an early statement saying that media reports of their relationship were “premature.” So it would appear that they had their fun but any talk of a more serious relationship was pure speculation, and they have not been seen together in some time.

From Vilma:

Hi Jen!!! how are you?? do you know i love you??? lol

I can’t speak for her, but I’m sure that she’d be glad to know what loyal fans she attracts!

From Kat:

Hey….i was wondering if jen and paul are still together or is it just the tabloids making it up because they havent been photographed together?they’re too cute together!!!

As stated in my response to Caity’s question, there is no current evidence to suggest that they are together at this time; however, there is nothing definitive to say that they are not. My suspicion is that they are not currently involved and were never particularly serious, bt if they are together then they have managed to remain remarkably private about it.

More to come!

Palm Springs ShortFest

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

PCA

Just a reminder that the Palm Springs Festival of Short Films and Film Market opens today. From mydesert.com:

ShortFest, as the Palm Springs International Festival of Short Films and Film Market is called, will present 332 films in 40 packages of about 90 minutes each tonight through Wednesday at the Camelot Theatres.

The opening program of shorts has won awards at major international film festivals.

Other programs feature an unprecedented 23 films with recognizable stars. Celebrities such as Jennifer Aniston and Bryce Dallas Howard, daughter of Ron Howard, also are making their directorial debuts.

But ShortFest has been more about pushing the envelope of innovative filmmaking than celebrities since its founding in 1995. This edition will feature the best of the nation’s student films and films from 35 nations that have been culled from 2,500 submissions.

“They are going to be the stars of this festival,” Executive Director Darryl Macdonald said.

Good luck to Jen and the entire cast and crew of Room 10!

In this post, I will begin to answer some of the many, many questions that have come my way. Some are more difficult to answer, as I cannot speak for Jen and there are some things that she declines to speak about publicly. Nevertheless, I will do my best. Without any further ado:

From Alice:

i want to ask jen :”jen,do you have boyfriend now? which kind of man you like ? i hope you be happy forever ,i really hope! and what do you wanna do next ? when you will marry to sb again? will you have a baby? do you like girl baby or boy baby?”

It seems that at this moment in time, Jen is single. In the past, she has said that she does not have a set “type,” saying instead that “men in general are a good thing.” As for the future? As she tole Elle magazine, “Past: done. Present: now. Future: none of our business.” With her free-spirited approach, she has the right outlook for whatever the future brings.

From Melanie:

Hi!

I would like to know what a typical day is like for Jen. Does she still do yoga? What kind of tunes does she like at the moment. Is she happy? What kind of nutrition is she eating?
Thank you so much!
M

It seems that she is still doing yoga; her instructor, Mandy Ingber, went with her to Hawaii recently, and the pictures from that outing make evident that she is doing something right! In the past, Jen was known to adhere to the Zone diet, but it does seem that in recent years she has loosened up and taken a more intuitive approach to her body’s needs - and is glowing for it. She is a longtime classic rock fan, showing a particular affinity for Aerosmith, and she was also spotted catching the recent Police reunion tour. As for whether she’s happy? Only Jen can answer that for sure.

Ever the beach babe, Jen was spotted on vacation in Hawaii with the Arquettes and an assortment of other friends. Check out more pics at Miz Showbiz and x17.

Also, yet another Jen project has been announced! Variety reports that Jen has signed on to star opposite Owen Wilson in an adaptation of the memoir Marley & Me. This film, if it stays true to the book, looks to be very moving and definitely not your typical goofy dog flick. Production will begin early next year.

Finally, thank you all for your questions! I plan to answer them within the next couple of weeks, so stay tuned!

Rachel and Gavin

Have any burning questions about Jen? Ask, either in a comment on this post or in an email, and I will do my best to answer in an upcoming entry. If you’d like me to attach your name and/or location to your question, let me know; if not, that’s cool too. Any Jen-related question, factual or opinion-based, is fair game; however, the official line on my own recent run-in with the paparazzi is “no comment.” [disclaimer: it was not me they were pursuing, really]

He’s Just Not That Into You

Thursday, August 16th, 2007

nobu3

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Jen is in final talks to join an all-star ensemble, including Break-Up costar Justin Long, in an adaptation of the best-seller He’s Just Not That Into You.

Jennifer Aniston is in final negotiations to star in “He’s Just Not That Into You,” New Line Cinema’s ensemble comedy being directed by Ken Kwapis. Drew Barrymore and Nancy Juvonen are producing via their Flower Films banner.

Aniston joins Jennifer Connelly, Kevin Connolly, Bradley Cooper, Justin Long, Ginnifer Goodwin and Barrymore in the Baltimore-set movie of interconnecting story arcs dealing with the challenges of reading or misreading human behavior.

While Jen has acted in adaptations before, this looks to be a very unique opportunity, as this project is based on a self-help book and therefore doesn’t have the set storyline that a novel would. It will be very interesting to see how the material is interpreted for the big screen.

Jen and Shirley MacLaine

Wednesday, August 15th, 2007

RHI

For Jen, Rumor Has It presented the opportunity to work with the legendary Shirley MacLaine, and it is evident that the two women formed a special bond during their time on set. Jen certainly valued the experience of working with someone whom she had always admired, saying, “Shirley is the definition of a firecracker. I’ve worshipped this woman - she is one of my idols, and I still can’t believe that I had this opportunity to work with her. She’s absolutely fantastic in every way.” Indeed, Shirley brought out the best in Jen, as their scenes together were the highlights of the movie.

Also noteworthy is the fact that Shirley reciprocated the praise, citing Jen’s professionalism and emotional maturity. She said of her costar, “I have maternal feelings towards her. Everything had hit, and it was just national news on a level that’s not fair to anybody. Jennifer’s emotional discipline to keep it together was really extraordinary. I don’t know how she did it. She’s remarkably levelheaded about the love she still feels in her heart after having been hurt.” As someone who has been in the business for a long time, Shirley saw Jen as having a unique ability to maintain a level head under pressure, both private and public, and confirmed what we all know to be one of Jen’s cardinal traits.

While promoting Rumor Has it, Jen interviewed Shirley for Interview magazine. Some highlights:

JA: I also kind of feel like the parts you choose sometimes reflect things that are happening in your life at the current moment.

SM: And it’s often something you need to clarify for yourself. That’s a metaphysical act to me. Of course, I don’t think there are any accidents; I don’t think there are any coincidences - I believe in synchronicity. I believe that everything happens for a reason. But everybody wants to know what’s real.

JA: Even some actors and actresses have a hard time making that distinction.

SM: I never have. I remember Ted Griffin asked me one day, “What happens when you get so involved in a character that after six o’clock in the evening you can’t let it go?” Of course, nowadays it’s never six, it’s more like midnight. But I have never had that problem - and this is not a compliment to myself. I just have never had that experience of being so wrapped up in a character that I can’t let her go. Have you?

JA: No, I can’t say that I have. With me, pretty much when they call wrap, you can cut to the smoke coming out of the back of my car. What do think is the difference between those actors - and there are a bunch we could name - who live their parts and don’t shut them down, and then people like you and me, who can walk away at the end of the day?

SM: I think they’re better than us. [Aniston laughs] A lot of people would say -

JA: We’re just phoning it in?

JA: [laughs] How do you think it’s different being a young actress nowadays in Hollywood as opposed to when you were starting out?

SM: There’s a big difference. As you said, in my beginning days we didn’t have to think about promotion like you guys have to now. Today you have to really think about what you’re doing with your life, because it will be used.

JA: Well, the studios used to control the publicity, didn’t they?

SM: They controlled the publicity. I think People magazine changed everything. And tabloid journalism. When I was starting out, we only had Confidential.

JA: I believe that some form of honesty is usually the best road taken, and you keep as much to your heart as you can.

SM: That’s why I decided that I’m just going to live my life in public. I’m going to do my metaphysical search completely in public, and my life will be an open book. There’s still a lot about me that nobody knows, and after a while you get very adept at keeping that part of your life for yourself, which you’ll learn.

JA: I am learning.

“Room 10″ goes to Palm Springs

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

SBIFF 2

Reuters brings us yet another bit of very good news:

Jennifer Aniston and Bryce Dallas Howard will show off their directing skills at the Palm Springs International Festival of Short Films & Short Film Market, which kicks off August 23.

Aniston’s “Room 10,” a romantic drama she directed with Andrea Buchanan, stars Robin Wright Penn as a nurse alongside Kris Kristofferson. Howard’s “Orchids” stars Alfred Molina and Katherine Waterston in an unlikely romance.

The Palm Springs festival is a qualifying venue for consideration by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, so this is very exciting news. Once again, congratulations to Jen and Andrea!

Jen for Obama

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

Obama logo

It appears that Jen has contributed to Barack Obama’s campaign for the Democratic nomination! From People:

While some celebrities are outspoken about their political causes, others prefer to keep mum, publicly, about their political inclinations.

For the curious, though, there’s a new database, Huffington Post’s FundRace 2008, on the Huffington Post Web site, showing just how much money celebs (and regular citizens) are donating to the 2008 presidential candidates’ campaigns.

And a quick search reveals – surprise! – Hollywood’s big names appear to be leaning toward the Democrats. Specifically, Jennifer Aniston has donated $2,300 to Barack Obama’s campaign ($2,300 is the maximum donation allowed for the Democratic primary), as did Halle Berry, a longtime supporter of the Illinois senator who also contributed $2,300. (The actress has been photographed walking around Los Angeles in an “Obama for Change” T-shirt.)

While Jen is less outspoken about her views than some, she is clearly aware and actively interested in the current political climate. She has always made an effort to remain educated about the issues, and I greatly admire that.
