A not-so-critical perspective on The Break-Up
One day, I was telling my mom about the film Friends With Money, and somehow the phrase “my impartial opinion” slipped in there. To which she replied, “You, impartial about a Jennifer Aniston movie? I think that that’s impossible.”
She’s absolutely right, of course; nevertheless, from time to time I will have entries that focus on one of her films. I will begin with The Break-Up, the Jen film on which I am without a doubt the most biased.
Jen plays Brooke, a young woman sharing a downtown Chicago condo with her boyfriend Gary (Vince Vaughn). During and after a dinner party with their families, Gary and Brooke have the mother of all arguments, and Brooke decides to break it off. The now-exes continue to live together, as neither wants to admit fault by handing over the condo. This film is hilarious at turns, and surprisingly moving, and provides a view of the Windy City only rivaled by one of Gary’s bus tours.
Having worked as an extra on this film, I can say that the inside dirt on it is . . . not so dirty. Lucy Spiller would be devastated. But check back tomorrow for selected behind-the-scenes anecdotes. With that, I leave you with pictures from premieres around the world:

I love the dress she’s wearing in the LA photos, that’s so great! She always has such cute cloths though.
I really liked the break-up… my honey wasn’t nearly as impressed (chick flick) but I cracked up. Unfortunately, I’ve found a lot of her movies to be very slow, not bad, just slow.
(and I love JA, but don’t tell my Angelina fans, okay? LOL)

[...] Jen has always had an artistic side. She’s enjoyed painting and sculpting ever since she was a child, and at a young age she even had a piece displayed at the Met, as part of a special exhibition. It is not surprising, then, that much like her character Brooke, she has a healthy appreciation for viewing and purchasing art. On Friday, she was spotted picking up some pieces at the LA Modernism opening, presumably for the new house: . . .Jennifer was very casual in jeans and a black puff sleeve blouse. She selected some 1940’s pieces, some Hollywood regency decor and some totally eclectic stuff. Among her purchases: matching Italian brass shelving units for $18,000, a pair of large Mediterranean metal lamps for $1400, and an Italian sculpture of an ostrich that included a real ostrich egg for $1500. Our favorite was a delicate French standing ashtray trimmed with Hermes leather for $2500. . . . [...]
