Echo Films

Mystery solved!

Monday, August 11th, 2008

In some of last week’s candids, it looked like Jen was carrying a new script with her, and I know that I, for one, was very excited at the prospect of yet another Jen movie. Well, a recent news item from Metro offers one possibility - Jen may soon be hard at work on Getting Rid Of Matthew, based on the novel by Jane Fallon:

Jen will play Helen in the movie version of Getting Rid Of Matthew, which centres on a woman who tries to manipulate her married lover into reconciling with his wife.

Jane said: “Jennifer Aniston was always my top choice to play Helen, who is having an affair with a married man, but I really wanted someone who brought that likeability to the screen, so even though you knew she was behaving really badly you couldn’t help but like her.”

In the article, Ms. Fallon reveals her surprise at Jen’s enthusiasm about the project and the ease with which it all came about:

“She basically just said yes straight away, which I gather is unheard of. It’s bizarre. I was leaving the next day so we went to pitch it to a studio and fixed up a meeting with Universal before I went home. They said yes pretty quickly as well. It’s about as easy as it could ever be.”

This project, to be produced by Jen’s Echo Films, sounds like a very interesting prospect, and I can’t wait to see it happen, especially with Jen taking on the rather unusual role of Helen. More on this as it develops!

Little ditty about Jen and Diane

With the paps on her tail lately, we’ve come to know what Jen’s dinner plans have been on almost a nightly basis for the past few weeks. However, her dinner companion on Saturday night wasn’t John, Courteney, or any of the other usual suspects. It was Academy Award-winning actress Diane Keaton, perhaps best known for her phenomenal turn in Annie Hall. Check out Faded Youth for pictures of Jen arriving at Madeo, looking fabulous and carrying her favorite Bottega Veneta bag; remember when she carried that bag on the set of The Break-Up? I sure do. Madeo seems to be a favorite spot for Jen lately - during the week, she was there with John, Courteney, and Jennifer Meyer.

So what could Jen have been discussing with the ever-talented Ms. Keaton? One idea is the possibility that Diane might appear in a project for Echo Films, the production that Jen co-owns with her friend Kristin Hahn. This article from Variety discusses possible projects that Jen and Kristin have acquired rights to. One project that stands out is The Divorce Party, based on a novel of the same title by author Laura Dave. It is a story of commitment as viewed through the lens of one marriage ending and another anticipated to soon begin. A key role is that of society matriarch Gwyn Huntington, who uses her lavish anniversary soirée to announce her divorce - just as her son brings Maggie, his fiancee, to meet the family. It is not hard to imagine Diane playing the part of Gwyn to perfection - and Jen would make a lovely Maggie, should she choose to take on the role alongside her producing responsibilities.

As always, time will tell whether a collaboration between these two talented ladies comes to fruition, but I, for one, hope that it does.
