Management premiere videos

050509-4

Last week, Jen and her costars hit the red carpet for the Cinema Society screening of Management. Here are some videos from the evening.

TV Guide’s Hollywood 411 caught a cheeky moment between writer/director and star/producer, as Stephen Belber surprised Jen with an impromptu butt touch! Jen then said, “He’s allowed. He wrote it. Wrote it, directed it.” When asked about the “touching” moment in the film, she said, “It’s in his weird mind!” However, weird or not, she said that the moment was also one of her favorite moments in the script. “It’s one of the most memorable scenes in this movie, and one of the main reasons that I took the job was because I’ve never laughed so hard. I’d never seen something so well-written.”

Extra also caught up with Jen on the red carpet, and once again, the butt touch came up. When asked about the focus on her posterior, Jen said, “It’s pretty great. It’s pretty funny, I’ve never seen it, it’s fresh.” In response to a question about the most memorable Friends episodes, Jen said that Emma’s birth and all of the Thanksgiving episodes are the most memorable for her.

ITN asked Jen whether she is anything like Sue, to which she responded, “Not really. Not this one. Which was probably why it was so fun, just had to disappear.” Steve Zahn had some very sweet things to say about his costar: “She’s a brilliant actress and a very modest, humble person who’s just an absolute delight to work with. I couldn’t wait to get to work every day.”

Jen and Steve talk about Management

050509-17

Prior to the screening on Tuesday, Jen and Steve did some interviews to promote Management. One of them was with The Insider’s Steven “Cojo” Cojocaru, and they talked about love scenes and much more!

On Sue:
Cojo: Sue is kind of like the center, and I liked her, she was kind of strong, she had backbone.
Jen: She had damaged backbone!

On Mike:
Cojo: This character, was he crazy or just very persistent?
Steve: He’s a very simple, honest, unpretentious, naive guy.
Cojo: Very likable.
Steve: Yeah, very likable, and sweet, and somewhat of a kid, and then he really grows up, and he really finds himself in the movie, and I think both of them do.

On the laundry room scene:
Cojo: I think what people are going to go away with is the love scene, the sex scene in the laundromat. Discuss.
Steve: That was especially easy.
Jen: Really easy. Steve Belber, the director, had everything so well thought-out.
Steve: I remember in that scene, all I was concentrating on was trying to find the stapler, like we had all these things to throw and it was like, “Where’s that stapler?”

On becoming Sue:
Jen: She’s sort of a no-frills kinda gal, and it was fun putting that wig on every day!
Cojo: Oh, it was a wig.
Jen: Well, I had to do a whole bunch of jobs in a row. I would have, but it was literally like, how do we make every person look a little bit different, and be back-to-back?

Coiff-gate, new Management pics, and an interview

- By now, I’m sure you’ve all heard many media sources report that Jen spent a gazillion dollars getting her hair done. Or something on that order, for all the fuss out there. Naturally, I have my own thoughts on the situation - check out Hot or Not Beauty for my full article.

- Management is coming out in just over two months, and with that, some new stills have come out! Check out IMDB for a gallery of Jen and Steve on the set. I’m looking forward to this one!

- Daily Mail has a new interview with Jen from the Marley & Me junket, along with some stunning photos. Some excerpts are below - read the full interview here.

On Greece:

“We lived in Athens, then on an old farm in Crete, which is where Dad’s side of the family is from. You had to put your shoes on to go to the bathroom because it was outside! I went back there ten years ago and I must go back again – it’s gorgeous and the people are lovely.”

On looking back at old Friends episodes:

“You know, when someone says to me, ‘Oh, I saw an old episode of Friends,’ I ask, ‘What year?’ and they say, ‘Oh, I don’t know…’ So I say, ‘Well, what did my hair look like?’ And they’ll say, ‘It was in a bob.’ And I think, ‘OK, that was 2000.’”

On canine craziness:

“In my imagination, they put an ad in the paper saying, ‘We need untrained dogs!’ Some had terrible habits – it was crazy. And the trainers just worked with them for three months to increase that bad behaviour. I mean, they’d get praise for jumping up and chewing the couch. Instead of, ‘Bad dog, no!’ the trainers would say, ‘Good boy, you were really naughty!’”

UK premiere of Marley & Me

030209-1

Lights, camera, red carpet! Last night, Jen and Owen hit the red carpet at London’s Leicester Square for the UK premiere of Marley & Me. The costars braved a bracing London chill to greet their fans at the event - Jen wore a stunning blue Burberry dress and Azzedine Alaia sandals, although she eventually put on a black jacket to stay warm.

Jen and Owen showed their mutual admiration for one another, as they told MTV UK how much fun they had filming together. Jen said of her rapport with Owen, “We are friends and we had a really great time from the beginning to the end.” Owen echoed the sentiment: “It was easy and it was fun to film. It was one of those movies where everyone hit it off.” Jen also had wonderful things to say about playing the Grogans - she told the Daily Mail that “the characters that are portrayed are beautiful.”

See below for more photos from the premiere!

Jen in Elle UK

Jen may be about to jump into another comedy, with Baster set to film soon in New York, but she has her eye on something radically different - action films! In a new interview with UK’s Elle magazine, she reveals that she would love to take on a Bond girl role: “I’d love to do an action movie. James Bond! Glamour! Daniel Craig! S***-loads of fun!” However, she did tell the mag that Marley & Me, due for UK release on March 11th (and set to premiere in the UK tonight), isn’t exactly fluffy fare: “What’s great about this movie is that it’s a true story. It’s not pretty. It’s about the reality of a marriage.”

Furthermore, she gets real about what it takes to maintain that famous figure - and the demands of the industry on it. She tells the magazine that for the “funny, quirky, pretty” roles she gets offered, she needs to be disciplined about her diet. “I am a realist. I know if I eat nothing but burgers, I’m not going to be hired for parts I normally would.” Nevertheless, she’s comfortable in her skin and at her most peaceful, as she states that at 40, she is happier than ever. “I’m at ease - and not just with my age. Really, I’m at peace. I’ve never felt this good about myself before. I think that shines through.”

The full interview hits stands in the UK on Wednesday - more pictures from the stunning shoot can be seen at the UK’s Daily Mail.

Meanwhile, Jen’s on Ellen today! Check local listings for air time. Entertainment Tonight has the preview, along with a preview of John’s appearance on Ellen’s Grammy special, airing Monday. John comments on the many gadgets in Jen’s new home, and Jen comments on, well, you’ll see! Celeb watchers might recall a rather, er, interesting outfit that John wore some time ago, and Ellen asks whether he’ll wear it to Jen’s 40th birthday bash. She sums it up, though, when she tells Ellen, “I think he’s funny!”

Jen talks directing and dating

020209-25

Jen was on The Early Show yesterday, and while the interview was brief, it covered a lot of territory! Julie Chen led by asking Jen whether she’s had to be the one to say “he’s just not that into you” - Jen replied that she hasn’t, but friends have had to say, “Honey, I think he’s gay” about men in Jen’s past! The conversation then turned to directing, since Jen directed the short film Room 10. Julie asked Jen, “After you directed the short, did you bring something else to the project, because you were in the shoes of the director?” Jen’s reply is that she’s always a bit “bossy.” Finally, what makes a great date for Jen? A great restaurant, a great conversation, and a walk on the beach. The video is on CBS News.

Just a reminder - Jen’s on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno tonight! Also, there was a screening of HJNTIY in New York last night - Jen wasn’t there, but her costar Ginnifer was, as was Entertainment Tonight!

An interview with Jen and Drew

As Jen continues to promote He’s Just Not That Into You, she’s doing interviews alongside her costars, as we’ve previously seen. They keep on coming, too - here’s a particularly good one where Jen and Drew talk to American Superstar TV. Some highlights of the interview, along with the video, can be seen below.

Drew on what attracted her to this movie: “I was so excited to approach a subject matter that was trying to guide people in the right direction, because I was saying earlier, I want really good, honest advice from my friends, not like the coddling advice.”

Drew on Justin’s character: Justin’s character is like the gospel, he’s the truth, it’s so great. We all need someone like that, just lay it on.”

Jen on her first crush: “I do remember, I don’t remember his name, I don’t remember anything except him, but that’s it. He was friends with, his parents were friends with my parents in California, and I was six and I had a big crush on him, can’t remember his name . . . I was like five, I handled it poorly.”

Jen on social networking: “It’s happening speedy. I mean, there’s nothing, I feel like my poor grandmother did with the answering machine. She didn’t understand. She would just talk, thinking that there was somebody there, and leave five-minute messages. So it’s sort of like, I feel like, the Dark Ages.”

Jen on Ben: “I had such a ball, he was so lovely and so funny and so charming! I loved every minute of working with him. And it was, sort of like sometimes you get an actor lucky enough that you get that easy volley with and we just, we had a great time.”

More HJNTIY interviews!

Promotion for He’s Just Not That Into You is in full swing, and with that, the stars gave interviews this weekend. Jen, Drew, Ginnifer, and Scarlett talked to interviewers about that crazy little thing called love.

First up is Extra, where the ladies were asked an assortment of questions about love. When asked whether dating as a celebrity is hard, Jen replied that dating itself is hard! Drew reveals that she does enjoy dates, though, and Jen offers to take her out! Extra viewers also videotaped their own questions for the superstar love experts. If you buy a guy a gift and he doesn’t return the favor, is he into you? The answer to that would be a resounding no. The full video is here.

Next up was Access Hollywood, where bowls of dirty conversation hearts were a major conversation piece. After having a laugh over the naughty expressions on the candy, the ladies got to talking about turn-ons and turn-offs. Jen revealed her “baboon instinct” when it comes to men’s grooming - however, she did say that ultimately, it all comes down to chemistry. The video is here.

The men of HJNTIY got in on the act, as well; The Insider and Entertainment Tonight interviewed Ben, Justin, Bradley, and Kevin for a male perspective on the flick. Meanwhile, what else was Jen doing this weekend? She was saving the day! According to Britain’s Daily Mail (photos at the link), Jen spotted a dog out and about, and Jen took action with the help of a paparazzo on the scene, safely returning the pooch home. Talk about a happy ending!

And so it begins! The cast of He’s Just Not That Into You is out and about promoting the movie, and one of their stops was with The Insider’s Samantha Harris. Jennifer, Ginnifer, Scarlett, and Drew sat down with Samantha to talk about romantic gestures and crushes; Jen reveals that her childhood crush was Shaun Cassidy! Here are some other highlights of the interview - watch the video here:

Samantha: How do you know when a guy’s just not that into you?
Jen: How do you know? I think it’s pretty clear! I think you just know.
Scarlett: It’s very obvious to me that if somebody’s not putting in that same effort that you are, it’s just not happening, you know what I mean?
Jen: Yeah, I figure just pay attention to the actions. You know, words are one thing, but I think if they keep pulling your pigtail, they might like you.

Ginnifer: Everyone’s ‘happily ever afters’ are going to be distinctly different.

Scarlett: People are going to have different ways of expressing it, but I think it’s always nice for someone to travel to see you, that’s always a nice thing.

Ginnifer: The most romantic thing I’ve done? My biggest attempt at being romantic was when I was much younger. I did kidnap a boyfriend. I hid his passport and I put him on a train and we went to Canada.
Jen: I took a boyfriend to a hotel for his birthday and brought a massage table and I gave him a massage.
Samantha: Is your technique good?
Jen: My technique is fantastic.

YouTube find - Jen talks Management

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

As many of us remember, Jen’s film Management premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. From the time this project was announced, we’ve heard more and more about this quirky independent comedy, and it finally hits screens this fall. An interview from TIFF recently surfaced on YouTube; here, Jen talks a bit more about her character Sue Claussen and the experience of working with Steve Zahn:

Some highlights of the interview:

On why she took the role: “Oh, so many things reached out to me. I just thought it was so wonderfully written. I always kind of get drawn to characters that are in the search for or the struggle with . . . to see an arc of a character, to see someone start somewhere, get pushed, get challenged, and come out the other side better.”

On Sue’s need for control: “I think especially characters like her, people like her who are so in control of their day-to-day activities, to let the space for love to come in, it’s so frightening because it’s uncontrollable.”

On her costar: “He is just sweet and endearing and kind and pure . . . I don’t know if I’ve ever met someone with absolutely no agenda, I don’t think he has a mean bone in his body. I think that’s why he played that part so beautifully, because that guy could have come off kind of creepy and weird, as you know, and Steve’s vulnerablity and his innocence and his pureness made that okay.”

On getting into character: “Because it was a character, and it was something different than what people usually expect, or see me, it was very challenging, so there was a lot more of what I do at risk. And you transform - you have the wig, you have the J.C. Penney suits, you have the horrible shoes . . . I mean, that’s fun! Because the minute you have that on, you’re just, it’s a different person.”

The year ahead

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

The future is a mysterious thing . . . but it looks bright for Jen! 2008 ended on a high note for her, with the success of Marley & Me, and she looks poised to build on that momentum with several upcoming releases and possible projects. Here is a sampling of what we, as fans, can look forward to in 2009!

He’s Just Not That Into You

If you’ve seen Marley & Me in theaters, you’ve most likely seen the trailer for this February release - and if you haven’t, the trailer can be seen at the He’s Just Not That Into You movie website, along with a photo gallery and plot synopsis. Jen is part of an all-star ensemble cast in the romantic comedy; she plays Beth, a woman whose longtime boyfriend Neil (Ben Affleck) won’t commit to marriage. Jen and Ben appear alongside Ginnifer Goodwin, Justin Long, Jennifer Connelly, Drew Barrymore, Scarlett Johansson, Bradley Cooper, and Kevin Connolly - the film opens in the United States on February 6. A full list of release dates can be found at IMDB.

Traveling

Last year, Jen filmed this drama on location in Vancouver with costar Aaron Eckhart, and in just a few months, we’ll see it on screens! On Live with Regis & Kelly, Jen mentioned that Traveling comes out in April. The plot, in which Aaron’s character Burke plays a self-help author struggling to come to grips with loss himself, sounds very promising, and I know that I’m looking forward to this one!

Management

In that Regis & Kelly interview, Jen also mentions that Management, which screened at the Toronto International Film Festival this past fall, will hit screens this coming fall. The quirky independent comedy, which Jen co-produced, will be distributed by Samuel Goldwyn Films and Image Entertainment. A clip from the film can be seen on YouTube - it looks good!

Possible upcoming projects

If recent word is anything to go on, Jen won’t be resting for long! In her recent interviews, she has mentioned a few projects that may get off the ground soon, some through major studios and others through her company Echo Films. Among them: Goree Girls, based on a true story about an all-female country band in a Texas prison in the 1940’s, Getting Rid of Matthew, based on the novel by Jane Fallon, and Bounty Hunter, costarring Gerard Butler. All of her upcoming projects look interesting, and I look forward to watching them happen.

Interview overload!

Saturday, December 20th, 2008

Jen has been everywhere lately! She spent this week on the New York leg of Marley & Me promotion, and she’s done so many TV interviews, I could barely keep up! It’s enough to make a fan’s head spin, but even though she self-deprecatingly told Regis and Kelly, “You’re going to be sick of me,” I know that I, for one, enjoy watching her match wits with a variety of hosts. Without any further ado, video links can be found under the jump:

Scans from GQ and People

Saturday, December 20th, 2008

This week, when you walk past your newsstand, you are going to see a lot of Jen - in more ways than one. As previously mentioned, Jen appears in the January 2009 issue of GQ, in a photoshoot and interview that has managed to find its way into many conversations in recent days. The issue is already on newsstands in select cities, and it will be available throughout the U.S. starting on Tuesday.

Jen also appears on the cover of People this week - in the “Best of 2008″ issue, Jen answers a variety of questions sent in by fans. Topics range from Christmas traditions to unconditional canine love - and she says of a hypothetical Friends reunion that they would need to “do it way before we get to be geriatric Friends.” The issue is on stands now.

Scans of both articles are below - enjoy!
