Marley & Me

Jen is dog’s best friend

Clearance puppy

Jen has long been known for her love of dogs - she dotes on Norman and Dolly, and she brought her passion for our four-legged friends to her portrayal of Jenny Grogan in Marley & Me. And now it can be told - pet owners would trust her over any other celebrity to watch their pets.

According to Paw Nation, a recent poll on their site reveals that Jen comes away with an overwhelming lead - 70% of those polled would choose her as their most trusted celebrity pet sitter. She came out on top over Mickey Rourke, Nicole Richie, and Pamela Anderson. Her affection for her own furry companions is pretty clear - she has brought Norman and/or Dolly along with her on location on the sets of The Break-Up, The Baster, and of course, Marley & Me.

A few months ago, U.S. audiences turned up in droves to see Jen and Owen (pictured at the U.K. premiere on March 2nd) in Marley & Me, and it turns out that overseas audiences are just as fond of the flick! According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marley & Me took in $14.2 million overseas this weekend, following several European release dates, including the U.K release on Friday (netting $6.4 in that market).

The frisky fun isn’t over for U.S. fans, either - this movie will be released on DVD here in just two weeks, on March 31st. We have a choice to look forward to - the film will be available in a single-disc format, a two-disk “bad dog” edition with additional special features, and a three-disc edition available on Blu-ray disc.

UK premiere of Marley & Me

Lights, camera, red carpet! Last night, Jen and Owen hit the red carpet at London’s Leicester Square for the UK premiere of Marley & Me. The costars braved a bracing London chill to greet their fans at the event - Jen wore a stunning blue Burberry dress and Azzedine Alaia sandals, although she eventually put on a black jacket to stay warm.

Jen and Owen showed their mutual admiration for one another, as they told MTV UK how much fun they had filming together. Jen said of her rapport with Owen, “We are friends and we had a really great time from the beginning to the end.” Owen echoed the sentiment: “It was easy and it was fun to film. It was one of those movies where everyone hit it off.” Jen also had wonderful things to say about playing the Grogans - she told the Daily Mail that “the characters that are portrayed are beautiful.”

See below for more photos from the premiere!

Jen in Elle UK

Jen may be about to jump into another comedy, with Baster set to film soon in New York, but she has her eye on something radically different - action films! In a new interview with UK’s Elle magazine, she reveals that she would love to take on a Bond girl role: “I’d love to do an action movie. James Bond! Glamour! Daniel Craig! S***-loads of fun!” However, she did tell the mag that Marley & Me, due for UK release on March 11th (and set to premiere in the UK tonight), isn’t exactly fluffy fare: “What’s great about this movie is that it’s a true story. It’s not pretty. It’s about the reality of a marriage.”

Furthermore, she gets real about what it takes to maintain that famous figure - and the demands of the industry on it. She tells the magazine that for the “funny, quirky, pretty” roles she gets offered, she needs to be disciplined about her diet. “I am a realist. I know if I eat nothing but burgers, I’m not going to be hired for parts I normally would.” Nevertheless, she’s comfortable in her skin and at her most peaceful, as she states that at 40, she is happier than ever. “I’m at ease - and not just with my age. Really, I’m at peace. I’ve never felt this good about myself before. I think that shines through.”

The full interview hits stands in the UK on Wednesday - more pictures from the stunning shoot can be seen at the UK’s Daily Mail.

Jen and Owen in Germany

It seems like just yesterday that Jen and Owen were in Rome - well, it was yesterday. However, the costars have already moved on - to Germany! Jen and Owen are pictured above at a photo call for Marley & Me - or should I say, Marley & Ich - in Cologne. Owen looked dapper in a suit, and Jen was stunning in an all-black ensemble - black shoes, black tights, and a tiny black dress.

They quickly moved on to Dusseldorf for an appearance on the German TV show Wetten dass?, where the hosts make bets with the guests - with often hilarious results. Jen and Owen’s appearance was no exception - when Owen lost one bet, he and Jen ate dog biscuits! Despite the rather unpleasant taste of the biscuits, it seems that Jen and Owen handled the bet with good humor. Their next stop is the United Kingdom, where they will attend a premiere on Monday night. Meanwhile, click the thumbnails below for pictures from the photo call and from Wetten dass?.

022709-10

That was quick! Just yesterday, Jen and Owen were in Paris, promoting Marley & Me - today, they’re promoting the flick in Rome, after a quick flight last night. The costars were snapped at a photocall in Rome - this one was outdoors, and quite lovely. After rocking a floral frock yesterday, Jen is back in black - she sported an LBD for the photocall, and completed the look with a perky ponytail. Isn’t she gorgeous?

So where to next? Jen and Owen are still scheduled for appearances in Germany and the United Kingdom, so they’ve still got a way to go on their whirlwind tour of Europe - after that, Jen is headed to New York to begin production on Baster. I can’t wait to see more from these adorable costars! More photocall pics are below.

Jen and Owen in Paris!

022609-2

As previously mentioned, Jen has begun the European leg of Marley & Me promotion, and it all started in Paris! With that, she and Owen were snapped yesterday at a Paris photocall for Marley & Moi, as it is known en France, and the adorable costars looked terrific! Jen branched out from her typical neutrals - she wore a floral minidress with dark tights and insanely high Christian Louboutin heels. Some have been torn on the look, but I like it! It is definitely different for Jen, and the blue in the floral print brings out her beautiful blue eyes.

So what’s next for the jet-setting costars? After an appearance on French TV, they got on a plane to Rome (pictures at Gossip Girls)! Meanwhile, enjoy more pictures of the Paris photocall below.

Jen and John at the Vanity Fair party!

After the Oscars, the stars hit the afterparties, and in my admittedly biased opinion, Jen and John were the cutest couple of the night. The pair showed up at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party looking adorable and affectionate as they mingled with the elite crowd. Other stars in attendance (and pictured with Jen below) included Meryl Streep, Gerard Butler, Christina Applegate, Megan Mullally, and Gwen Stefani. However, as the pictures below show, Jen spent much of the evening with her beau, looking very much in love. In fact, John recently told Ryan Seacrest that he had attended as support for Jen - but she ended up being his support!

So where to next for Jen? Europe! She has promotional duties in France, Germany, and the United Kingdom for Marley & Me, and she was recently snapped at LAX (pics at PopSugar). Pictures from the Vanity Fair party are below - enjoy!

Jen and Jack in the press room

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

oscars09-8

Continuing my game of catch-up after technological snafus earlier in the week, here are pictures of Jen in the Academy Awards press room with Jack Black and two new Academy Award winners. On the Oscar stage, they presented awards in the animation categories; Wall-E, directed by Andrew Stanton, won for Best Animated Feature, while La Maison en Petit Cubes, directed by Kunio Kato, won for Best Animated Short Film. Fitting his short film, Kato gave a short speech as well, saying very simply “Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto” in a nod to Styx.

After the presentation of the awards, Jen, Jack, and the winners were photographed in the press room - check out the photos below! I still cannot get over how gorgeous Jen looked in her Valentino gown - she was easily one of the evening’s best dressed!

Jen and John get away for Valentine’s Day

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

camera

After spending Jen’s birthday at home, Jen and John seemed to have fallen off the radar for a bit. As it turns out, they were enjoying a romantic Valentine’s Day weekend - in the Bahamas! The adorable pair was snapped leaving the islands on planes to different destinations - and they parted affectionately, as John leaned in (and Jen reached up) for a kiss. Pictures are at Daily Mail and X17.

So what’s next for these two? While John’s working on a new album, Jen has some busy times ahead. First up is European promotion of Marley & Me, as the film readies for release in several European countries - UK readers can win tickets to a preview screening at What’s On TV. After that, it’s lights, camera, action! The Baster is set to begin filming in New York in the early spring.

Jen’s movie He’s Just Not That Into You came in first place at the box office in its opening weekend, and while it did not top the box office this weekend, it came in second, with a solid weekend take of $19.6 million, beating new releases including Confessions of a Shopaholic. The top 5, according to Box Office Mojo:

1. Friday the 13th - $42.2 million
2. He’s Just Not That Into You - $19.6 million
3. Taken - $19.2 million
4. Confessions of a Shopaholic - $15.4 million
5. Coraline - $15.3 million

Speaking of Jen’s recent movies, a release date has come out for the Marley & Me DVD! The film will be available on DVD on March 31; it will be available in a single-disc edition, as well as the “Bad Boy Edition”, a two-disk edition with additional special features. The latter is also available on Blu-ray. It can now be pre-ordered on Amazon.

Jen has another #1 hit!

020209-9

Congratulations to the cast and crew of He’s Just Not That Into You! The romantic comedy, in which Jen is part of a star-studded ensemble, topped the box office over the weekend with a three-day take of $27.8 million, according to Box Office Mojo. Following the success of Marley & Me just a month and a half ago, Jen is on a hot streak!

Of course, box-office success isn’t the only thing that Jen has to celebrate these days - you wouldn’t know it to look at her, but she is turning 40 tomorrow! With that, Jen had a party at her place on Saturday - E! Online reports that along with usual suspects like Sheryl, Courteney, and David, Jen celebrated the milestone with many celebrity pals, including Oprah, Chelsea Handler, Tom Hanks, and Rita Wilson. John Mayer celebrated with her, too - it is reported that Jen and John were very affectionate all night. Also, Fabric magazine reports that Jen’s parents, who divorced when she was 9, both showed up for their daughter’s celebration.

Back to John Mayer, I’d like to congratulate him on his two wins at Sunday’s Grammy Awards! He won Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for “Say” and Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance for “Gravity.” While Jen did not accompany him on the red carpet, she did celebrate with him later - Rolling Stone reports that Jen was in attendance at SonyBMG’s party at the Beverly Hills Hotel. These two have a lot to celebrate - check out the picture below of John posing with his awards.

Scans and stuff

Sunday, January 18th, 2009

- People is watching Jen’s style! Our girl has shown off some fabulous fashion at recent appearances (including the Marley & Me premiere), and People Style Watch has taken notice, featuring Jen on the cover of the February issue. Lately, Jen has favored LBD’s with a twist, and the article shows budget-friendly frocks in similar styles. Additionally, it goes on to discuss her fresh makeup look and some of her favorite things - one of those favorite things is her gorgeous gold watch, featured in a later article. Click on the thumbnails below for scans:

- Sky Showbiz agrees that Jen is looking better than ever - a recent slideshow underscores their point with a close look at her recent fashion choices. When you’ve got it, flaunt it - and Jen’s got it!

- What if Jen was . . . cartoonized? Thanks to Cartoonize The World, we won’t have to wonder. Check out their unique caricature here (and thank you to John Prince for the heads-up!).

- A recent interview in Nylon reveals that Casey Wilson of SNL fame is a Jen fan! She even reveals how she draws inspiration from Jen in her own work on the sketch comedy series.

- Finally, a cute tidbit for Marley & Me fans. Some time ago, the Grogans appeared on Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan on the National Geographic Channel with their new dog, Gracie. In an effort to keep their chickens safe, John and Jenny turned to Cesar to learn how to enforce boundaries with Gracie. A clip from the episode can be seen below:

Screen style - Marley & Me

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

Marley & Me is licking up the competition at the box office, and with that, Jen’s girl-next-door charm has once again won over millions of moviegoers. Not only is her acting in this movie terrific, but she looks phenomenal. Jen’s look in Marley & Me is interesting because it changes over the course of the movie - the film spans over a decade, and during that time, Jennifer Grogan goes from a young newlywed to a mother of three, and she looks the part every step of the way. From the early ’90’s to the more recent past, Jenny’s life changed, as did the fashions of the time, but Jen’s onscreen style is comfortable and tasteful throughout the film.

Clothing: To keep up with Marley, comfort is first and foremost, and sure enough, Jenny’s wardrobe in the early ’90’s consists of a lot of tees, tank tops, and shorts in an array of bright colors, along with sundresses to beat the Florida heat. As time goes by, the palette of Jenny’s wardrobe becomes more muted, reflecting both a change in popular fashion and the character’s more mature taste. By the end of the film, the Grogan family has moved to Pennsylvania, and Jenny keeps out the cold with sweaters, coats, and boots. According to CelebStyle, the brands that she wears include James Perse, Splendid, and that old standby The Gap.

Hair/makeup: Not surprisingly, her beauty look evolved over the course of the film as well. In the press conference transcript at About.com, Jen mentions that the stylists on the set used wigs, extensions, and clip-on bangs to create varying styles for her character. Most of the styling trickery is evident early in the film, when Jenny wears heavy bangs for a younger look. Later in the film, she goes without the fringe and wears her hair simple and straight. Her makeup stays pretty consistent, though, with a natural, glowing look that compliments her bronzed complexion.

That necklace: You know which necklace I’m talking about. The necklace that went on a rather unusual journey, but is gorgeous nevertheless. That necklace is actually two pendants worn on one chain - both pendants are designed by Jen’s pal Jennifer Meyer, who also designed the jewelry that Jen wore in The Break-Up. The Diamond Heart Necklace and the Number Key Necklace can be found at Roseark - or try your luck in PopSugar’s new contest!

Another weekend on top for Marley!

Sunday, January 4th, 2009

It’s another weekend at the top of the box office for Marley & Me! According to Box Office Mojo, the film is still #1, with a weekend take of $24.1 million. Not only did Marley lick the competition, but it reached an important milestone, passing the $100 million mark with a total take of $106.5 million so far. Good dog!

Speaking of Marley & Me, keep your eyes peeled during the obedience school scene; real life meets reel life as the real John and Jenny Grogan appear as extras in the scene, according to production notes on the movie’s website. If you watch carefully you can catch them - John (above, with canine star Clyde at the premiere) is wearing a black-and-white print shirt, while Jenny is somewhat harder to spot, as she is in the far background wearing a gray shirt. Photos of the couple during the “Marley days” can be seen here on John Grogan’s website.

So where’s Jen? She’s in Cabo! Jen went on a New Year’s vacation with pals Courteney Cox, Laura Dern, and Sheryl Crow, along with their families - pictures are at Gossip Girls. Owl’s Lab blogger Ashley reports that John Mayer was also in Cabo, and that he and Jen shared a romantic sushi dinner on New Year’s Day. Jen’s getting some relaxation in, and it’s a good thing because it seems that things are going to get hectic for her very soon! With He’s Just Not That Into You promotion coming up for its February release, and Traveling soon to follow, along with several projects in development, she is going to be one busy woman!
