Fan spotlight - Caity

To kick off the fan interviews, I spoke with Caity, a 17-year-old student from Chicago. A relative newcomer to the Jen fan scene, she has been a fan for about two years; nevertheless, she knows her stuff and is very enthusiastic! Here is what she had to say (under the jump):
Erin: How long have you been a Jen fan?
Caity: Well, I’ve never NOT liked her. but i became more of a fan around 2 years ago.
Erin: Cool. What was it about Jen that caught your attention initially?
Caity: She caught my attention before i became a fan, with (sadly) the whole brad divorce. I never liked him, ever, so i remember totally sympathizing with her. It made her seem more real, that life wasn’t totally fairy tale, but look, she’s surviving. I think the first movie i saw with her was Rumor Has It, and I remember thinking she just seemed so natural, and I started really liking her.
Erin: Very interesting, and definitely a point of view that a lot of people can relate to! In the time since then, what other qualities have you come to admire in Jen?
Caity: Truly, what I love most is still what caught my attention. She’s so HUMAN. She swears and she jokes and she’s just herself. She isn’t afraid to admit her insecurities, and yet is still able to maintain confidence, at least on the outside. And she’s a damn good actress, and just seems like someone you’d want to be friends with.
Erin: Let’s talk about her work. What is your favorite film that Jen has done so far?
Caity: That’s always a hard one. Above them all, I have such a love for Derailed. It’s so different from any of her other movies, and it’s so not what you’d expect. And, OK, Lucinda’s not quite Miss Perfect, but come on! She’s so COOL, lol. (Clive Owen helps, as well). But I also adore The Good Girl, and I connect with a lot of Friends With Money. I like her less obvious choices most.
Erin: What about her television work? Do you watch Friends?
Caity: Friends is a big reason why I became such a Jen fan. I really liked her when I had seen Rumor Has It, but I was on a Reese Witherspoon kick then. And through her, I watched the episodes she had guested in, and then I was like, wow, why did I never watch this show? I was 4 when it started, so I never had. And I tried to keep neutral between the cast members, but I own 1 Matthew Perry movie, 2 Lisa Kudrow ones, and about 11 Jen ones. You do the math
but yes, Friends is probably my favorite tv show. It’s like my therapy.
Erin: Cool! What would you say was Jen’s finest moment on the show?
Caity: The birth of Emma, and also Ross and Rachel’s break-up. Both moments have had me in tears before, and it’s so great that she’s on this show that’s so hilarious, but she can turn around and move you so much.
Erin: I agree with that, the realism of her emotions is perhaps her greatest gift. The upcoming months look to be very exciting for Jen. What are you most looking forward to?
Caity: I’m pretty excited about every project coming up, because each is a bit different, but I’m most looking forward to Traveling, because I love her in serious roles. She always shows something new and amazing that she’s capable of that we’ve never seen before. Comedies are great, and I always love romantic comedies the first few times, but the happy endings get old. It’s the unexpected dramas that stick around.
Erin: Very true. Now changing the subject slightly, do you express your appreciation in any creative way, such as art or fanfic?
Caity: About a year ago, I got really into Friends fanfiction. I’m incredibly attached to Ross and Rachel (probably in an unhealthy way, haha), and I wrote around 14 stories about them. I’ve started writing my own fiction instead, but it’s all still influenced by them in some way, just because they’re important to me for certain reasons. The entire show is.
Erin: Very cool! Would you like to use this opportunity to tell the readers where your fanfics can be found?
Caity: www.fanfiction.net/~rrfan4life unfortunately, my last story was never finished, and it was my favorite of them. oh well. (warning: the first few are incredibly mediocre, haha)
Erin: Thank you so much for sharing! Do you have any funny or unique Jen-related anecdotes that you would like to share?
Caity: Well, this is pretty common among women, but for the past year, my hairstylist has seen exactly 4 pictures of her when I go in. It started with the shoulder-length cut and the reddish brown hair from season 3 of Friends, which eventually became the longer layers and side bangs from season 10. I haven’t quite taken the leap and gone all golden-brown yet, its more like her color in Derailed. As you can see, my hair revolves around her (I’m so original!).
Erin: I think that a lot of Jen fans can relate to that! Anything else you’d like to share with your fellow fans?
Caity: Please, for the love of humanity, stop believing any rumors about her! haha, I’m not saying you all do and I don’t want to offend anyone, and I know a lot of people don’t, but I grow so aggravated when people are actually like “OMG, she’s dating orlando bloom!”, LOL.
Erin: I think that a lot of us have learned by now just how off the mark the gossips can be! Anyway, thank you very much for taking the time for this interview, Caity! Jen is lucky to have a fan like you.
